ACS AT ACCD FAIR

Soils testing Phoenix Company

Friday was a very enlightening and fun day for ACS. Employees Joshuah Contreras and Jack Brown attended the AZ Construction Career Days run by the Association for Construction Career Development (ACCD). Both Josh and Jack volunteered as “tour guides” where they had the opportunity to direct groups of high school students around the event. They thoroughly enjoyed being given the chance to facilitate learning about the construction industry while being available to answer any questions the students might have. It was obvious that a great many of the students were highly engaged and curious about what a career in construction could offer. ACCD, as well as the wonderful companies involved in the fair, are doing a wonderful thing for young people getting ready to enter the workforce. It can be a daunting and challenging thing for young adults after high school, so the importance of community events like this is apparent

Josh and Jack were able to network with dozens of emerging young professionals. The curiosity and eagerness to learn was refreshing and exciting to see. All the companies involved in the exhibits did a phenomenal job at keeping their activities and information fun. For example, Southwest Gas gave the students the opportunity to see what it would be like to mitigate and fix a gas leak while keeping it engaging by turning it into a race. Other companies allowed the students to bend pipe into fun shapes that they could keep. There was also a station that allowed the students to build their own birdhouses as well as a welding station. A lot of the students were amazed at some of the big equipment that was available for them to ride and operate; students were able to run a backhoe to grab a basketball from a traffic cone and place it in a box. ACS is delighted to have been a part of this experience and can’t wait for next years fair to come around so that we can take an even bigger role in involvement at the event. Not only are we able to give back to the community, but we are able to network with current and potentially new clients and that is always a plus.
